Ask your child to help you make a grocery list. Describe each item as you write it on your list. “A carrot is a vegetable and it is orange.”
Describing things for your child and asking her to describe the things she sees helps her learn new words. In this activity, you also could ask your child to help you look through the newspaper for pictures or coupons of the items on your grocery list. It’s also important that children see adults using print for a purpose, in this case, making a grocery list.
