Encourage your child to draw a picture. When she’s finished, ask her to “sign” her artwork by writing her name on the picture.

Drawing and scribbling are the first steps toward learning to write. Often, children’s scribbles will resemble letters of the alphabet. One of the first words any child wants to learn to write is her name. Encourage your child to “sign” all her artwork. It’s okay if her first attempts don’t spell her name exactly.
