Subject: Literacy Statistics
I am doing research on literacy in US. I need statistics that can easily be quantified as to how large the illiteracy rate is by several demographics.
- high school seniors - how many are reading below a proficient level -
- grade 7 - how many reading below a grade 7 level
- adults over 18 - how many unable to read
- adults over 18 - how many reading below a grade 8 level
- prison population - what is the literacy rate
- learning disabilities - how many people are not able to read

I am trying to 'size' the potential market for reading literacy.

It has been difficult to get stats, graphs, charts etc.
I would appreciate pointing me in the right direction or any materials you can offer.

Thanks,
Mary Ann
